Program Overview

The Online Certificate in Wine Industry Finance & Accounting provides an overview of financial and accounting concepts that enables you to make better business decisions and advance your career.  Taught by wine industry professionals in the finance and accounting fields, students explore key wine-specific accounting concepts and principals, and financial strategy, planning, and management for wine businesses.

Who Should Enroll:

  • Wine industry professionals with limited experience in finance and accounting can take these courses to gain practical knowledge and financial literacy skills. 
  • Finance and accounting professionals can take these courses to expand and deepen their knowledge of best practices in finance and accounting for the wine industry or to earn CPE credits towards maintaining CPA licensure.

 

Requirements:

The Wine Industry Finance & Accounting Certificate requires successful completion of two 8-week online courses:

  • BUS 859W -  Foundations: Best Practices of Wine Industry Accounting
  • BUS 847W  - Advanced: Financial Management and Strategy for Wine Businesses

Delivery Structure:

Each 8-week course is delivered entirely online through a combination of assigned readings, pre-recorded lectures and slideshows, weekly activities and projects, discussion forum submissions, and a live weekly webinar discussion to review the content covered over the preceding week. We recommend students be able to commit 4-6 hours per week to complete all required readings, slideshows, assignments and webinar sessions.

Note:  All live webinar sessions are recorded and available for asynchronous viewing via the online classroom after they take place each week.

    Foundations: Best Practices of Wine Industry Accounting

    LO1: Identify the components of financial statements and their inter-connected relationships.

    LO2: Construct and analyze financial ratios/trends to execute business decisions/strategies needed to manage the business.
    LO3: Develop a plan for managing profitability through revenue management and cost analysis. 
    LO4: Evaluate accounting processes to determine optimum controls and accountabilities.
    LO5: Understand the financial resources and time periods necessary to establish a wine product.
    LO6: Understand other options for managing accounting processes and systems.

     

    Advanced: Financial Management & Strategy for Wine Businesses
    LO1: Effectively integrate wine industry data into the business decision-making process.
    LO2: Create a financial plan for wineries, vineyards and/or other wine industry businesses.
    LO3: Develop a strategy for profitability for wine industry businesses. Analyze basic financial reports.
    LO4: Evaluate business performance through a financial filter.

    • The role of different business structures and strategies in the wine industry.

    • The role of mergers and acquisitions in the wine industry.
