Academic Advising

undergraduate advising

The School of Business and Economics maintains an active advising function and offers a full-time academic advisor with whom each lower-division Business student should consult on matters regarding general education, university requirements, the lower-division and preparatory courses, and routine major issues.

In addition, every full-time Business Administration or Economics faculty member actively advises students based on concentration, especially on matters relating to the major and careers. Early contact with a faculty advisor is essential. Students are encouraged to work with Tracy Navas in the first two years of their program (or as entering transfer students), and their faculty advisor in the third and fourth year of their program when they are working on upper division core courses, concentration courses and electives.

Declaring Business Administration

Business Administration majors are assigned a faculty advisor based on their chosen concentration.

You can find who your faculty advisor is in your MySSU. Faculty advisors maintain their own calendars. For specific issues or questions about the Special Concentration, students can make an appointment with John Urbanski.

Transfer students should attend a University orientation as soon after admission as possible. Visit the Sonoma State University's Office of Admissions website for upcoming dates and other important information.

If you have completed coursework at a community college that you believe will meet any part of our Business Administration requirements or Economics requirements you may view our Transfer Advisory List to see which courses we have approved as substitutions for courses required in our program. The list is updated on an ongoing basis, but is subject to change at any time with or without notice. If you do not find your college or course listed, please contact the School of Business and Economics main office and request a Transfer Course Substitution Request form.

The Transfer Advisory List is NOT a substitute for proper advising!
